Organic chem lab help! extractions/purifications?

so i will be given a mixture of cholesterol and salicylic acid (.5g of each, mixed) and i need to separate them and purify them. im having issues with the separating part. solid-liquid extraction or liqued-liqued extraction? neither are really soluble in water. salicylic acids extracts into 1 M NaOH but cholesterol doesnt. does that mean i should do a liquid-liquid extraction with NaOH to seperate the layers?
