Is Robinson Cano an MVP candidate because of his position?

Robbie had a great year (and I'm sort of cheering for him as I'm a Yankees fan) but Hamilton and Cabrera had more home runs and higher batting averages. Have his stats been overvalued because of his position? Second baseman are sometimes judged offensively with lower standards (e.g. "legendary" 2B Ryne Sandberg, Joe Morgan and Craig Biggio)
