Is adding 4Gb RAM to my laptop a good idea?

Unless you are running a 64Bit OS, I would not install more then 4GB of ram, as you will not ever be able to allocate it and use it. You should be fine with 4GB of ram anyway for audio, only time you would need the 8GB would be if you were editing videos or large photos.
